As one begins the journey in the martial arts, it is important to understand that many changes will be experienced physically, mentally, and spiritually.

  PHYSICAL CHANGES

FLEXIBILITY comes from regular stretching.  Over time, stretching tones the muscles and relaxes the body.  It enhances circulation reducing stress that otherwise accumulates and destroys the balance in the body.

AGILITY is the ability to change direction or body position quickly and proceed smoothly with another movement.  Agility is a very important in that it links martial art skills to work together quickly and coherently.

AWARENESS of the surrounding environment can prevent sudden accidents or external threats from materializing.

ENDURANCE enables you to go the extra mile to achieve your goal.  Through regular practice of physical techniques, breathing exercises and good diet both mental and physical stamina improve.

COORDINATION is the ability to integrate physical and psychological processes into an efficient pattern of movement.  Martial arts practice develops coordination by drilling a variety of eye-hand, eye-foot and hand-foot skills.

ACCURACY comes from the precise execution of movements by corresponding muscles.  Since every technique in martial arts has a particular purpose and target area, accuracy becomes second nature through practice.  The habit of accurate execution of techniques brings out an accurate way of thinking in daily decision making.

POWER is one of the most critical factors in safety and control.  Since martial art applications are, in their purest form, a system of conflict resolutions between opposing forces, increased mental and physical power is a natural benefit of training.

PSYCHOLOGICAL CHANGES

CONFIDENCE is a product of the ability to protect yourself.  The intrinsic strength developed in martial art practice affects your daily life by creating a strong sense self-esteem.

IMPROVED SELF-IMAGE is the result of the positive attitude, knowledge and inner discipline that create a structured method of coping with challenges with a positive attitude.

CERTAINTY that you are in control of yourself and your safety are a common benefit of martial art training.

BELIEF IN SUCCESS results from succeeding on a regular basis in both the long and short term goals of martial art practice.

SPIRITUAL CHANGES

BALANCE IN LIFE In our system, one of the primary teachings we share with our adult students is that of having balance within one's own life.  All things must maintain proper and Biblical balance controlled by faith or our entire life will spin out of control.

REFLECTION ON SELF A second teaching is that as a Christian martial artist we must learn to meditate and focus upon the Word of God.  In so doing, the Lord will reveal to us the sin that remains in our lives.  Through the light of Scripture, we learn to reflect its teachings upon our own spiritual character.

INNER AND OUTER STRENGTH A third teaching and change that occurs within the proficient Christian martial arts student is a growing understanding of INNER STRENGTH and its relationship to OUTER STRENGTH.  The Bible teaches that our physical bodies must be under subjection through our spirit.  We must walk in the spirit and not in the flesh.  By walking in the spirit we will fulfill the commandment of God.

ETERNAL CONSEQUENCES  A fourth teaching within our system is the understanding that what we do on this earth has eternal consequences.  This is especially important as we consider the fulfillment of the Great Commission through spreading the Gospel via martial arts training.  Also, a student must understand that the actions we take as a result of an attack will influence others throughout eternity, particularly in a case of deadly force.

PATIENCE A fifth teaching is that of patience.  Jesus teaches us as Christians that we must learn to be patient and listen to the words of God.  In his prayer prior to dying on the cross, Jesus said not my will, but thine.  In the parable of the sower (Luke 8:15) we further understand the need for righteous patience.

HUMILITY Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.   Matthew 23:  12. And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.  All knowledge and wisdom come from God.  The Lord is everything, we are nothing.  However, I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST; HE STRENGTHENS ME.  We teach the student must change from self-reliance to total God-dependency.

SERVANTHOOD Another main teaching is the  importance for us to remember our place, as servants.  Jesus himself said he did not come to BE served, but to serve OTHERS.  Christ gave these words to His apostles in    Luke 22: 26.  "But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.   27. For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.
