Thinking Cap #14 - The Question: Just How Many Kids Are Enough?

If you were a product of the 50's and 60's as I was, you were undoubtedly exposed (indoctrinated) to the ZPG (zero population growth) concept. We were told that two kids were sufficient and that having more than that was harmful to mankind. Now, for whatever reasons, we seem to see that "mind-set" still in force. It is even entrenched in the halls of our Christian Schools and the pews of our churches. Are we out of touch with the Bible? Just how many kids is enough? Your responses are welcomed up to the deadline of midnight, Friday, June 2.

Thinking Cap #15 - The Question: Is There a Problem With Dabbling in The Lottery?

If you live in Florida, you've heard the line, "It won't change your life, just how you live it." The lottery, the source of happiness and joy. Humanist heaven. For the Christian, is there a problem with dabbling in the lottery? It's just a game and a little R&R. Besides, a Christian would surely tithe on his winnings and I'm sure the church could put that money to good use. What do you say? Is there a Biblical position on playing the lottery? Should you care to respond, your thoughts are due by midnight, Friday, June 23.

Thinking Cap #16 - The Question: Must You be Baptized to go to Heaven?

Baptism.... If you're a good "Baptist," you just had all sorts of mental pictures from that one word. Most of them accurate I would suspect. But the word has also spawned some rather aberrant (my opinion) religious practices. Being raised a Methodist, I was baptised as a helpless infant. My wife, having been raised a Lutheran was taught that her baptism brought her "into God's family" and thus assured her of heaven (that's precisely what the liturgy said). But of more interest to me in this thinking cap is the question of whether or not you must be baptized to go to heaven.

Thinking Cap #17 - The Question: Is Capital Punishment Biblical?

Death Penalty. I had a conversation with some good Christian friends from three different churches recently. I was surprised to hear the differing views regarding the concept of capital punishment. Ironically, only one of them was able to give Scriptural credence to their view. What is your view? Is capital punishment Biblical or is it cruel and inhumane? Your thots, should you decide to jump in are due Friday, August 25 at midnight.

Thinking Cap #18 - The Question: World Domination

With this the 50th anniversary year of victory in World War II, a lot of focus has been given to the struggle in Europe during that time. While from a Theistic point of view, Hitler was wrong (although our Humanist friends would have to eat crow as Hitler was living out their view of ethics in the extreme), one does have to ask the question as to the position of the Jews in society. Are they indeed to be the working class. Are the "gentiles" supposed to be the leaders. I'd enjoy hearing your thots (with supporting Scripture) by Friday, September 22.

Thinking Cap #19 - The Question: Homosexuality

Go to most any large city in the country and you have a Metropolitan Church or some other named church that caters to the Homosexual "Christian" audience. Look at any main-stream protestant religion as well at the Episcopalians and several Baptist associations and you can find those who officially sanction homosexual marriages and homosexual clergy. How can so many be wrong. Or, perhaps they are not wrong. Just what does the Bible have to say on the topic of Homosexuality? Would you allow one to join your church? Be your pastor?

Thinking Cap #20 - The Question: Big Bang & God.

For years there has been a war for the hearts and minds of men going on between the scientific world and Christians. Is this a young universe (measured in thousands) or an old universe (measured in billions of years). Some of the world's greatest people of faith started out as the world's greatest skeptics. Note the leery questions and doubts of Abraham (Ge. 15:8; 17:17), Moses (Ex. 3:18; 4:1-13), Gideon (Jud. 6:13-17, 36- 40), David (Ps. 22:1), Jeremiah (Jer. 12:1), all of the disciples and Paul (Acts. 9:1-5) to name just a few.

Thinking Cap #21 - Bankruptcy?

What a beautiful way to get out of debt. In 1988 there were about 500,000 personal bankruptcies. In 1992, the number had jumped to 900,000. Clearly we now have a more plausible remedy for financial problems in our life and a quick fix. Is it an option for Christians.

In my opinion, here are some principles that I would use regarding this question.
